Case Study: B&M Whitley BayDated: 02/07/2014

B&M stores have provided work experience placements for many years and we work with branches in Whitley Bay and Byker. Presently, both branches are working with a number of current and ex-Palmersville learners and they provide an excellent retail work experience which sits alongside the in-centre training. We are proud of our partnership with B&M stores and they have helped develop our young people and help get them ready for employment in the retail industry.

This has been so successful that a great number of Palmersville learners have actually been employed by B&M stores themselves! Whitley Bay branch manager, Neil Turner, has recently employed three Palmersville learners, Melanie, Robson, and Jack. For the management at the Whitley Bay branch it was a simple decision to make as they have been impressed by the dedication and ability of the learners. Assistant manager, Joe Calow said, 'from day one their attitude has been great and they have been willing to learn and have shown a great attitude. They have actually influenced and improved the store. The relationship with Palmersville Training has also been excellent and Claire has been brilliant to work with.' Melanie has recently won the Employee of the Month award and with another Palmersville learner nominated for the next award we can see what Joe says is true. The story is being repeated at the Byker branch where manager Dave has recently offered Luke Pears,a contract.

They have provided a rewarding work experience for many learners and have been happy to offer contracts whenever possible.

We hope many learners get the chance to take advantage of this excellent training and employment opportunity.
